Progress Test Trial Summer 2026

We are recruiting Year 10 students to take part in our Progress Test Trial assessing English, Maths and Science.

Our summer Progress Testing Trial plays a vital role in ensuring that our assessments are kept up to date with new content and remain rigorous, reliable and forward‑thinking. As we move towards a new model that introduces fresh material into our existing assessments to increase the variety of questions students encounter, it is essential that we gather updated information on how students across the UK perform on our current progress test content.

What’s involved in the trial?

Who can take part?

UK mainstream schools with Year 10 students* are invited to take part in this digital trial. Students will sit our existing PT15 series assessments, which include a small number of new, previously unseen questions.

Which subjects can I trial?

Schools can choose to trial a single subject or multiple subjects but must complete our Progress Test Science assessment to sit our Maths or English assessments.

How are the tests administered?

Each of the digital tests are administered on our Testwise platform and take up to 50 minutes to complete. Existing Testwise users can complete the assessments on their schools’ accounts and schools new to Testwise can be set up with trial accounts.

When are the tests administered?

Schools can then administer the assessments at any point in the trialling window which runs from April to July 2026.

*Equivalent to Scottish S3 and Northern Ireland Year 11

The support from GL Assessment has been excellent. The instructions were clear, the guidance easy to follow and every query I had was answered quickly and helpfully.

Why take part?

  • It’s simple and easy to take part, and there is no cost involved.
  • You don’t need to do any marking and will receive reports generated on our Testwise site for all participating students, within one hour of test completion.
  • As a thank you for your school’s participation, you may receive a thank-you gift, such as an e-gift card or similar reward. The thank-you gift varies on the scope of participation, and the exact details will be shared with you in your invitation prior to each session, so you know what to expect before taking part. Schools who trial all free subject assessments may receive an additional thank-you gift.
  • Your contribution will support us in ensuring our assessments are as rigorous and innovative as possible and support our mission to improve educational outcomes for students.

What kind of results will I receive?

Within one hour of completing the assessment your school will receive detailed reports showing how your pupils performed in each assessment. These include individual pupil reports as well as group reports for classes and year groups.

These reports can be used to identify strengths and gaps in learning across your Year 10 cohort. The reports will also show how your pupils performed in comparison with a standardised sample of international schools.

How do I sign up?

Fill in the registration form to register your interest and we will be in touch with more details. If you have any questions or would like more information before registering,  please email: [email protected] or book time with a member of our Trialling Team: Trialling Consultation.
